The Conjuring 2: Enfield Poltergeist

The Conjuring 2

The Conjuring 2

Okay so Ed and Lorraine Warren are back with their paranormal investigations in The Conjuring 2. A movie based on their investigation on The Enfield Poltergeist. Edward and Lorraine Warren were real life paranormal investigators. They have written a number of books too. In 1950s, they founded the New England Society for Psychic Research which is still working and will be passed on to Tony Spera, the son-in-law of the Warrens. The Warrens Occult museum is the most interesting part to mention here. It is said that whatever demonic possessed things they found during their investigations are actually placed in this museum including the Conjuring mirror and the Annabelle doll which are put on display every now and then and attract many visitors across the globe. The pictures maybe found on the internet on the official site of the Warrens.

Coming to the story line, the movie failed to impress. Having watched Annabelle, The Conjuring and the Conjuring 2 and knowing that its based on true stories, I decided to look a little deep into it. The story of Enfield Poltergeist itself aroused much attention in the media and its authenticity was questioned again and again as there were evidences of the girl, told to be possessed by demons, faking it. In the movie, they beautifully covered that up.
The story is of a family of single mother raising 4 children. 11 year old Janet was possessed. Her act of faking the incidence was recorded as well. A solid evidence for the whole story to be a hoax. In addition to that, the voices that were believed to be of the evil spirit were also studied carefully and many of the researchers believe that it was an act of ventriloquism for the voice had a teenager effect. Janet, the real victim of the story, also claimed that about 2 percent of the incidence was fake and pretended. Furthermore some sources on the internet claim that the demon only acted or talked when the people were not watching. And Ed and Lorraine were not much involved in the investigation as depicted by the movie. So the movie is a little exaggeration of the true story.
It starts with clairvoyance of Lorraine on another most criticized case investigated by the Warrens , the Amityville horror. She also gets warned by the evil spirit of the Enfield poltergeist. They decide to go investigate anyway. Here they try to gather proof for the church but instead get tapes showing the girl faking one of the incidents. They decide to go back that night but later Ed analyzes the tapes again and they try to save her.
While watching the movie, the only thing that makes you feel scared is the fact that this movie is based on a true story. It is well directed by James Wan but not as good as its predecessor if you compare.
