Music: A Medicine for the Body and Soul
Music is something we all love. During all good and bad times, music seems to be our loyal friend. Sometimes when we are unable to express through words, a song comes up, that describes our sentiments exactly how we feel them. This helps us to feel lighter and relieves us from the trouble of expressing. Music is just not for the sake of entertainment, but it causes such diverse effects on the human body and mind helping both to function better.
People like listening to the kind of music that reflects their mood. Hence you will probably come across a recently “in love” person listening to the cheesiest songs ever like “pehla nahsa pehla khumar”. A heartbroken person, “ ye dunya, ye mehfil, meray kaam ki nahe”. You will see a pindi boy walking in his shocking pink shirt and bright yellow pants humming and listening to “ bachna ae haseeno lo main aagaya” just because he thinks that he is the KEWL-EST thing that can happen to girls around him.
Uplifts Your Mood: Apart from this music has a lot of health benefits. Research proves that when you listen to music you like, your brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that makes you feel good. Due the release of dopamine a person experiences a flood of emotions like happiness, joy and excitement. So next time when you are in need of a mood uplift, listen to your favorite tunes!
Helps you to perform better, physically: Music helps a person to divert their minds from any sort of long, tiring work that they have been doing. It motivates an individual to do better and keep on trying. So, if you have recently started working out, or started on a new project and are looking for motivation and peace, put on some nice music and let it do the magic.
Music Heals: For physical injuries we have all sorts of medicines, but what if the hurt or the pain is emotional. The best medicine in this case is music. It decreases levels of the stress hormone cortisol in your body, which counteracts the effects of chronic stress. This is an important finding since stress causes 60% of all our illnesses and disease. So if you are having a bad week, or facing emotional instability, music is the best therapy to it!
Strengthens Learning and Memory: every mother has a very typical “Taana”ready for us when she hears us singing, “ kabhy sabaq aisay yaad kea hota tw top kerta”. It is said that music in reality helps increase your memory; also that it helps a person to learn better. So next time, when your Amma says this, tell her that it is scientifically proven!
Soothe yourself, turn on your favorite jam and sing out loud to it! Live in the moment and let the music clear your mind. Give all your worries away and shout out the lyrics. All your worries will seem to drift away. Feel like crying? Then put your favorite song on and cry to it, every tear along with every word of the song will make you feel lighter. Last but not the least, take it easy and live to your fullest!
