‘Social Injustices – Inequality among Rich and Poor’

“And Indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay. Thereafter We made him as a Nutfah in a safe lodging. Then We made the Nutfah into a clot, then We made the clot into a little lump of flesh, then We made out of that little lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, and then We brought it forth as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators. After that, surely, you will die. Then surely, you will be resurrected on the day of Resurrection.”

(Surah Al-Mumenun – Ayat no. 12-16)

Firstly, the universe was created by Allah and then He created Adam and Eve to live in Eden and to eat and to abide therein but the only thing they were ordained from was a tree but somehow Satan strayed them from the right path and they ate the fruit of that tree. Due to this act of disobedience, they were expelled from Eden and then they were sent to the world to abide therein for a limited time period and were given the sense of right and wrong. And those who follow the commands of Allah were the inheritors of Jannah. And those who disobey His commands will be put into the fire of Hell. When Adam and Eve committed the mistake, they were expelled from Heaven, then they bowed before Allah repented for their sin and sought His forgiveness. On the other hand, when Iblees refused to bow before Adam as was commanded by Allah, and disobeyed His command, Adam (AS) was forgiven for his sin but Iblees, due to his arrogance, was thrown into the fire of Hell.

So this shows that each and every human being was created in the same way as referred in the verses of Holy Quran, Surah Mumenun, and this reference makes it evident that there is no concept of rich or poor made by Allah and the one who was “Muttaqi and Parhezgar” was considered to be superior. But nowadays, we notice that society has made class systems and according to that system, the one who is financially strong is superior to others and this thing creates a sense of inferiority among others and restrains them to be grateful to Allah.

If we look around, we will see that the gap between rich and poor people is increasing day by day; the poor people are becoming poorer day by day and the rich people are becoming richer with each passing day. All this is caused due to the increasing inequalities among both sections of society. But all these differences are creating chaos in the world as it is certainly against the Islamic dimensions because Islam and all other religions emphasizes the equal rights for human beings, and there is no concept of poor and rich according to financial matters.

According to the Islamic point of view, we, the humans, were not born with this class division. Almighty Allah made all the human beings equal at the time of birth till the time of acknowledgment of right and wrong. After that time, inferiority and superiority of a human being is determined through his actions and way of life that he leads. Each and everything in this world is created by Almighty Allah, and then He created human beings to live in it and get all the benefits out of it, but there were certain restrictions imposed upon them by Allah.

So instead of becoming ungrateful to Allah, a person must ponder over the fact that rich and poor both have to play their roles according to their richness and poverty. It is the duty of rich people to take care of poor people as well and to give them their share in a fair way rather than adopting pride of Iblees, who disobeyed Allah’s command and refused to bow before Adam. It is not that the one who is rich will keep on wasting his wealth on worldly pleasures but he will be asked about it in the hereafter that whether he gave the poor their shares from his wealth or not. For this purpose the concept of giving alms is emphasized in Holy Quran again and again and by observing the situation of the world these days, we examine that rich are so much indulged in their busy routines that they don’t pay heed to giving of Zakat and this makes the society corrupted and worsens the condition of poor people.

In this way, if we look from the poor people’s perspective, we notice that they, as commanded by Almighty Allah must work for their survival and keep patience because it’s not only about the worldly pleasures, there awaits a ‘life after death’ in which all the human beings will be gathered in front of Allah and they will be asked questions about the purpose of life. As the sole purpose of creating human beings was to serve their God by praying to Him and by serving other human beings with what they possess and after death they will be asked about all these things.

So it is evident that this difference between poor and rich is only limited in this world, and at the time of death, people will not take their wealth and fame along with them. Instead, the high ranks and wealth will remain here and in ‘Kafans’, no matter whosoever he or she is, they will considered to be a ‘dead body’ and they will be wearing ‘same Kafans’ and will be buried in the ‘same clay’. The only thing that they will take along with them will be their good and bad deeds.
